Law Of The Minimum

Who Was Justus von Liebig?

Liebig is regarded as one of the most influential agricultural scientists even to this day. He discovered that a plant’s growth-rate, size, and overall health depends on the amount of the scarcest essential nutrients available to it. Essentially, the chain of nutrients in the soil is only as strong as its weakest link. His findings have encouraged farmers to expand their view beyond just the major macronutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (N-P-K). He recognized the need for a more expansive nutrient profile.

The Law Of The Minimum

Liebig’s “Law of The Minimum” states that a plant’s yield potential is limited, if even 1 growth factor is deficient or missing. This law is often depicted as a barrel whose staves represent the individual growth factors. When 1 stave is deficient or missing, the entire barrel loses its ability to hold water. Thus, when even 1 growth factor is deficient or missing, a plant loses its yield potential and underperforms or dies.

This law is especially applicable to a plant’s nutritional needs. Plants require an assortment of macro and micro-nutrients to sustain their chemical and biological activities. If even 1 of these nutrients is deficient or missing from a plant’s environment, its yield and health will suffer.

Macro-nutrients: (required in larger amounts)

  • Nitrogen
  • Potassium
  • Sulfur
  • Phosphorus
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium

Micro-nutrients: (required in smaller/trace amounts)

  • Chlorine
  • Boron
  • Manganese
  • Nickel
  • Iron
  • Copper
  • Zinc
  • Molybdenum

Deep Sea Mineral Profile

Using a more complete nutrient profile for plants, Liebig developed mineral fertilizers to help replenish essential nutrients in the soil. These minerals need replenishing because they are constantly being stripped away from our soil by wind, percolating water, weathering, and erosion. The final destination for most minerals is the ocean, giving deep sea water an extremely rich, balanced, and full spectrum of life sustaining sea minerals.

Deep Sea Health Benefits

Deep sea water has been a point of interest for medical researchers for a long time, especially for Dr. Maynard Murray MD. He devoted much of his career to studying why ocean life was devoid of the degenerative diseases that plague land animals, including humans. Dr. Murray discovered that the mineral profile of deep sea water was mirrored in the elements and quantities found in healthy blood, specifically plasma. In his book, Sea Energy Agriculture, Dr. Murray explored how using deep sea minerals can eliminate trace mineral deficiencies. He said:

“The discovery of these facts led to researching the effects of sea minerals applied to soils and plants for healthier food. The results were astounding—plants grew faster and healthier, were more disease resistant and maintained higher nutritive value. Animals also preferred to graze on the treated pasture land.”

Deep Sea Minerals and Human Health

Medical researchers have noticed that the law of the minimum can apply to our own mineral profiles as well. Human health suffers when trace minerals are deficient or missing from our diets.

The National Institute of Health has conducted extensive research into deep sea water and have discovered some fascinating health benefits. Their tests have shown that deep sea water can:

  • Lower cholesterol
  • Protect against cardiovascular diseases
  • Prevent artery plaque
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Reduce obesity
  • Regulate blood glucose levels (treat diabetes)
  • Treat skin conditions
  • Improve liver and kidney health
  • Reduce fatigue
  • Treat ulcers
  • Prevent cancer cell growth
  • Treat cataracts
  • Strengthen bones and reduce osteoporosis

Redmond: Ancient, Deep Sea Minerals

Here at Redmond, our mission is to nourish the world from the ground up. By enriching our soil, crops, and livestock with deep sea minerals, we are in turn enriching our own health. Harvesting minerals from the deep ocean may be out of most of our reaches. Fortunately the Earth has spent the last 200 million years preserving a rich, deep sea mineral deposit for us to share. The Redmond mine and its protective layer of volcanic bentonite clay provide a naturally balanced spectrum of sea minerals.

Soil Conditioning

We know that too many fertilizer programs today focus heavily on NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium) while neglecting other essential minerals. Adopting a well-rounded and complete soil mineral program will produce both immediate and long lasting rewards for any growing operation.

Animal Mineral Supplements

Our ancient sea mineral supplements have been proven to improve animal health and increase production for a wide range of species. Redmond’s mineral profile more completely replenishes the blood mineral profile for healthier and happier animals. Watch the video below to learn more about our deep sea mineral deposit and why we are so pleased to share it with the world.  Give us a call today at to see how we can help your operation!
